With a rich Irish heritage and a master’s command of multiple instruments, Gabriel Donohue has captivated audiences around the globe for over four decades. Performing traditional Celtic ballads, Broadway standards, or fiery flamenco‑tinged melodies, Gabe brings unparalleled musicianship, warmth, and storytelling to every stage he graces.
Gabriel toured three years with Grammy‑winning The Chieftains across the US, Europe, and beyond. He has recorded with the Boston Pops and collaborated with acclaimed artists like Eileen Ivers, Joanie Madden, Michael Flatley, and more. National television performances include The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, NBC's Today Show, Charlie Rose, Conan O’Brien, and The Late Show with David Letterman—where he accompanied Tom Waits. In addition to national tv, he has also appeared at many prestigious venues and events: Carnegie Hall, National Heritage Awards at the White House during the Clinton era, Riverdance performances, and international festivals
Born in Athenry, County Galway, Gabriel Donohue cut his musical teeth performing with the Leitrim Ramblers Ceili Band by age fourteen and later fronting Ireland’s showband scene with Magic, which landed multiple Irish Top-Ten hits. Arriving in New York City in 1978, Gabe immersed himself in traditional Irish music, studying guitar, musical theatre, and voice while honing his craft amongst folk legends
Gabriel’s expansive repertoire spans Irish ballads, Broadway standards, Johnny Cash tributes, gypsy melodies, flamenco, and more—drawing from a catalog of over 3,000 songs. He is a master multi‑instrumentalist, performing on guitar, piano, bouzouki, mandolin, Irish whistle, accordion, bodhrán, and exotic percussion
Founder of Cove Island Productions (operating over 25 years), Gabriel has produced and engineered albums for top acoustic and Celtic artists including Eileen Ivers, Joanie Madden, Seamus Connolly, and others. He also teaches songwriting in classroom settings, guiding emerging artists through the full creative process
Now based in Philadelphia, Gabriel continues to tour extensively throughout the US, UK, Middle East, and Europe—performing solo, in ensemble, at festivals, pubs, corporate events, and private functions. He regularly headlines intimate listening-room series and pub residencies such as those at Wexford Pub and Boothbay’s 727 Ocean Sunset.
