Zack Seemiller (b. 1968 in Pittsburgh, PA) is a dynamic singer-songwriter, guitarist, and comedian who has been a cornerstone of the Key West music scene for over three decades. Raised in southwestern Pennsylvania, Seemiller discovered his passion for music early, later honing his craft at the Music Institute of Technology in Hollywood in the early 1990s.
Grooveyard (early ’90s–1999): Co‑founder and frontman of the jam band that toured the East Coast and Europe, notably releasing Live on the Rocks (1994), recorded at Schooner Wharf Bar
Solo & Duo Work: After Grooveyard’s dissolution, Seemiller continued performing in Key West venues like Rick’s, Hog’s Breath, Willie T’s, Sloppy Joe’s, and the Sunday Ramble series, both solo and alongside longtime collaborator “Caffeine Carl” Wagoner
Albums & Singles: Notable releases include Kokopelli/Sunshine and Rain (2016), Live at Sloppy Joe’s, Conch Christmas, and the original singles “I Live on an Island,” “Harmony,” and “I’m Not Jimmy Buffett,” available on platforms like Apple Music and ReverbNation
Seemiller’s vivacious stage presence—featuring high-kicks, witty banter, and musical comedy characters like Chevy Chestnuts—has earned him the moniker “Key West’s Rockstar Comedian.” His improvisational style fills venues with energy and laughter, a technique born from a distaste for dead air between songs. He’s opened for Kevin Nealon and headlined at Key West Theater, reinforcing his reputation as a consummate entertainer.
Seemiller has deftly embraced modern self-promotion—earning acclaim for his “Zack Mart” merchandise, social media presence, and humorous graphics by collaborator Susan Sypniewski. During the COVID era, he pivoted to live broadcasts on Facebook, maintaining community and income.
After moving to Key West in his twenties, Seemiller has remained rooted in the island’s creative heartbeat. He describes life there as ideal: live gigs, cycling between venues, and the vibrant culture that inspires his songwriting. He also balances fatherhood, sharing the stage with his son Kai, a guitarist and guitar-maker.
